About us
Syrian Orthodox Youth Association (SOKU)
The Syriac Orthodox Church Youth Association (SOKU) was founded in 1996 by the youth of the Syriac Orthodox Church for youth. SOKU is a nationwide organisation with 20 local branches across the country. Today, SOKU has around 7,000 members throughout Sweden. The organisation's members belong to the diocese of the Patriarchal Vicariate for the Syriac Orthodox Church in Sweden.
SOKU is an association that works to safeguard the interests of Syriac youths on a religious, cultural and social level. The organisation annually organises a choir festival, bible competition, numerous camps, themed days with an ecclesiastical and spiritual focus, weekend courses, lectures and much more for its members. We work to provide young people with meaningful leisure time within the Syriac Orthodox Church.
SOKU works tirelessly to engage young people in associations. We organise regular training courses for boards where subjects such as association administration, association finance, communication, conflict management and leadership are covered in order to best support the young people who are involved on a voluntary basis. The training also covers the rules of democracy, its principles and democratic processes.
SOKU's secretariat provides support to the federal board, committees, local branches, members, as well as other stakeholders and partners such as other Syriac organisations and Swedish authorities.

About SOKU
The Syriac Orthodox Church Youth Association (SOKU) is an association affiliated with the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch. SOKU is a nationwide organisation that carries out activities for the religious, cultural and social interests of children and young people.
Some of our objectives are to promote spiritual, theological and church education, to gather children and young people in the faith and knowledge of the Syriac Orthodox Church based on a Christian perspective, and to work to preserve the heritage of the Syriac Orthodox Church. Furthermore, we work, among other things, to give Syriac youth a meaningful leisure time, promote democratic education and engage more young people in association life.
