Christmas, the birthday of the Lord Jesus and religious feast of Christianity, has been celebrated by Syriacs at the Klas Hotel in Diyarbakir.
To the nights organized at the Klas Hotel Osman Baydemir Metropolitan Mayor of Diyarbakir, Canan Hancer Basturk and Serdar Polat Vice Governors of Diyarbakir, Saliba Ozmen Metropolitan of Mardin, Cavit Torun MP of the AKP (Justice and Development Party), Kutbettin Arzu President of Trade and Industry Chamber of Diyarbakir, Proxy Mufti of the city, Can Sakarel Member of Administrative Board of Mother Mary Church, Tahir Elci Deputy President of Diyarbakir Bar attended as well many guests.
Can Sakarel stating they emigrated from Diyarbakir years ago said the city still has a special meaning for them. He announced that Syriacs in European countries would collect financial aid for the Mother Mary Church.
WISH OF PEACE FOR NEW YEAR
Saliba Ozmen Metropolitan of Mardin said they had never forgotten Diyarbakir and would restore the Mother Church. ’The Mother Mary church does belong not only to Syriacs but also to Diyarbakir. We request everyone to see the church as their home.’ Stating they pray for accession to the European Union, Ozmen wished the new process brings peace to people.’
Cavit Torun MP of the AKP stated that the Lord Jesus is also Muslims’ prophet and said: ’Just as we see Mohammed as our genuine prophet, we regard the Lord Jesus as our genuine prophet, too.’ He uttered that they, on these lands, suffered greatly and brothers had fought with each other and added that beautiful view remained a great deal of suffering and sadness back.
BAYDEMIR: I GREW UP WITH THE AZAN AND GONG VOICES
Osman Baydemir Metropolitan Mayor of Diyarbakir, said: ”This program reminds us of peace and we are on a crucial way, which goes to peace and which is the way of unity.” Baydemir stating he had grown up with the azan and gong voices, wished the past days when turn back.
